Hello

I am struggling to find a 1871 census entry for Mary Jane Stokoe and her parents (possibly just mother) and sibling(s)

Mary Jane Stokoe was born Newcastle 1863 (Occupation Servant)

In 1891 she was living  at 51 Fell Street, Byker with
Mother Mary Stokoe (I do not know the maiden name) born abt 1824 in Scotland
Brother William Stokoe born abt 1961 in abt 1824
Her illegitimate daughter Mary Stokoe born in AUG 1889 in Newcastle.

I think I have found her in service in 1881 at 39 Westmoreland Terrace, Newcastle.  I haven't found her mother in 1881, however her brother is lodging in Gateshead at 16 Forster St.

I have been unable to find any of these in 1871 and I am hoping that finding them there, might ive me some indication as to who the father is and might save £9.50 at GRO.

I had seen this one, however there was a Mary Stokoe born in Hexham, in the same quarteras Mary Jane Stokoe in 1863.

from 1881 onwards she is living in Newcastle and always showing as being born in Newcastle.  One of the records I found has her as being born in St Peters.  I have searched the BT's for St Peters around her birth but no joy on a baptism record.

Stokoe is my grandmother's family name and they came from Hexham/Allendale. Let me know if there's a connection; I have some photos too.

Wow, that was quick... I suspect they are related (Stokoe is a rare name + Google doesn't recognise 'West Allen' as a district so it is almost certainly West Allendale) - but as you say finding the link is tricky part...
