Don't be daft Keith, they didn't have telegraph poles back then  ;D

Ah, I thought you meant you couldn't now access the data at all.

Yep, some of the really old ones are a nightmare.  I find its more the fact the lines of text are squashed together!  Latin doesn't help on the old ones either.

1836 should be okay though, if his nib was fine  ;)

Julia,

I've learned today that BMSGH has a complete set pf records for the period you need. They might prove to be an easier route to the record you are looking dor.

You can still sit there and read the microfiche.

Well, that's a relief.   :)

St Philip's PRs are on film, not fiche (as have been all the others I've needed to look at there).  The film readers are the kind that you have to wind on manually, so plenty of exercise for the arm  ::) still they are very much in demand, so always a good idea to book one in advance.

Hi Keith
If I've read it right BMSGH only has marriages up to 1800  :(

Yeah, sorry, I didn't look closely enough at the list.

Sounds like you and I are having about the same kind of luck at the moment.

yes, I'm not convinced I'll get a father's name but would be interested to see any witness names.

What makes you so doubtful? I can't recall seing a single parish record which didn't contain a father's name.

There are no father's names on the Durham Bishop Transcripts that you can view on Family Search Pilot site, just witnesses and usually one of them is a professional or the minister!

It's not usual for fathers' names to appear on marriage entries before 1837.  Although sometimes they do if either of the parties was under 21 and a parent's consent was needed.
