Leeds neighborhoods?
« on: Tuesday 17 August 10 00:15 BST (UK) »
The new 'National Probate Calendar' for England & Wales at ancestry.com has the following listing:

CARR Grice Ethell of 12 Brandon-terrace Slade Hill Moortown Leeds died 16 February 1928 Probate Wakefield 27 April to Sarah Carr widow.  Effects L2108 18s5d.

Geography in England seems so complicated to me.  Could someone please explain "Slade Hill Moortown?"  Is "Brandon-terrace" a street?  Thanks for your effort!

If you were sending a letter to that address it would be

12 Brandon Terrace  (house)
Slade Hill (area)
Moortown  (district)

Hi Encinita.

If you search using the alternative spelling of 'Slaid Hill, Leeds', you should find a few bits of useful info.

Hi

You've had the address layout explained.  I can add: I know the area well, and it's a very nice location - one of the best areas in Leeds.

CaroleW, Finbar Resartus, Danuslave, libby9, and dave the tyke,
My goodness! I continue to be so impressed by how quickly RootsChat gets me so many quality responses.  The alternate spelling will be especially useful; I would never have thought of that one.  Thank you so much for all the detailed information: it's exactly what I was looking for!

Wasn't Grice married to Emily Jane Stocks 1884 in Wakefield, Yorkshire? When did she die and what date did Grice marry Sarah Unknown?  Thank you
