Hello Jean

do you relate to the Acton family from Lichfield who lost a son in WW1 called George J?

I am currently researching the local war memorials and his name is on it and  searching through this site I found this thread

Thanks

John

I would be interested in earlier Wilkes records if you have them.  Our family in the USA was connected to the Actons and some used the Acton name for their middle name.  Thank you.

Hi My Wilkes Family start with Edward Wilkes circa 1720 Feckenham Worcestershire,
My lines stays with all The Edwards down to Edward b 1812 Bewdley Worcs,
who marries Ann Acton.
my Acton line goes back to John Acton born 1659 Lichfield Staffordshire.

Thanks for your quick reply!  Do you know if there are any of that Wilkes line still living and have they had their DNA tested?  If so, do you have the DNA link?  We are making much progress in the US with our testing.   Our oldest proven ancestor is Francis Wilkes/Wilks b: est 1675-1715 d: winter 1744-1745.  His inventory was filed by his wife Grace (Unknown) Wilkes in Edgecombe Co., NC.  There was also a John Wilkes/Wilks who may have been his brother or father who owned land around that same area.   Francis's known sons were Thomas, Isaac, James, and Francis.  I descend through his son Isaac.   Thank you!

Thanks, the Masters or LeMaster name is associated to the Wilkes in mid-atlantic USA during the mid-late 1700's.  Since we don't know our ancestor's past the early 1700's, not sure where they came from.  There were quite a few Wilkes in New England, northeastern and mid-atlantic USA

PS:  DNA is now showing determining cousins within other surnames, so is very worth your while male or female.
