Ohhhh I just found something...

My grandfathers old driving licences..They are British ones...but its in an envelope...from Dublin.

Now i suspect my grandfather had been to visit Billy his brother, like he often did, as the return address on the back states:

Mr W McAuley
belview beds?
thomas st
dublin 8

The beginning of the envelope is torn, so if its a number on belview beds then i cant see..or a st thomas st? not sure...

Oh how i wish it has my grandfathers DOB on the licence but it just has his name and signature...

Tiny little red book....two of them....

I'm almost sure that Thomas St is in the postal district of Dublin 8. It's the continuation of James's St - where Guinness brewery is located.

It might be an idea to search for his marriage to your grandmother to confirm his details. A cert will give their father's name's and occupations. (would help confirm, or rule out, any births you find)

I not 100% certain which corner of the junction 108 is on, but one corner has been completely re-developed. As far as I can #108 was the Flowing Tide put up to the 1970s

Ah there i hit another wall - Nan and Grandad didnt have a nice relationship at the end...And unfortunately....of their marriage they had 3 children...Mark whos now deceased, Anne-Marie whos incapable/in hospital...and my mother...whos dealing with Anne-Marie...and sick with ME/CFS.

Im the only grandchild.

My nan...harder to back check...She was an orphan bought over from Germany with 8 other brothers/sisters and all put into orphanages and names changed...So Ive been told that her german or Jewish (we dont know which) family name was translated into 'Bruce' when she was here. but she was under 5yrs old, so she never recalled any of it. And when she passed, One sister had found us all and said she had tried so hard to do the family tree but got stuck at many hurdles.

I dont even know the date of my grandparents marriage :(

if you know both names and even approx. date and place - it might be possible to locate the details required to order a cert. An England/Wales BMD index can be searched at : http://www.freebmd.org.uk/

The index is not complete for all areas or for more recent dates, but would be worth a look.

Ah ha...im trying all these sites, and they want damn money...and im not sure its the right information before i shell out for them....

Three things I have found that have sparked my mind....

I recall that my grandfather was called 'Dermot Francis Matthew McAuley' at his funeral, and those two middle initials keep appearing on sites...

Secondly, for the marriage to my nan...the surname 'Cooke or Bruce' is appearing, which Ive heard family members mention.

And thirdly, looks like they got married in Surrey? which is peculiar as my nan was always around the Acton (ealing district) area.

OK found out that in the 1939-1940 Electorial Register....

Mathew McAuley             Polling MA No: 427
Christina McAuley           Polling MA No: 428
Teresa McAuley              Polling MA No: 429

Mathew McAuley Jun      Pollimg MA No: 431

I wonder who was voter 430.....hmmmm

BY my estimation...if the main Mathew or the Jun? (does that mean Junior?) is my Grandfathers Brother then the 2 women maybe other sisters?

Mattie was 43yrs old when he died in 1960 so if so...then he maybe the entry Mathew McAuley Jun as he would have been about 21-22yrs old in this electorial year...So therefore that may mean that the other Mathew McAuley is his father (and my grandfathers father)....
