Passenger list TAY 1, Samuel watson SUGDEN

A friend of mine is trying to trace details of an ancestor of hers ( grandfather) called Samuel Watson SUGDEN. He left England from Hull in July 1913 bound for Sydney. Apperently he used the name W SUGDEN. He arrived there in October of that year. If anyone could help Thanks

It would be helpful if you listed his parents names,  date & place of birth so we can look for a marriage or death, there are a lot of SUGDEN's in the indexes of various states of Australia

Hi Merlin, Samuel SUGDEN was born 23.9.1885 in Hull, His father Watson SUGDEN, born Idle 1857, Mother Harriet KIDD, born at OULTON 1856. Samuels children were Alice 1880, Sarah kathleen 1883, Mary Constance 1887 and George William.  Thanks,  Trevor

Samuel died 3 Oct 1918 as result of wounds he received in action WWI.

He had changed his named to John/Jack Sugden when he enlisted in the AIF, service no: 51455.

There is a Red Cross file on him which includes hand written letters from his parents Watson & Harriet Sugden here:

Hi Merlin, Thanks for that . I have visited the CWWGC and downloaded a memerial of him and I have read the letters. I am, however, having difficulty in accessing his service record. I have registered and initiated a search but it just comes back as server error. I have tried several times without success. I suppose it could be a problem on their side.  Regards Trevor
