Bristol marriage 1845?
« on: Sunday 03 April 05 22:56 BST (UK) »
 ???

Would a couple from Llangwm and Raglan go to Bristol to get married in 1845?

Uriah Lewis Born 1816 Llangwm and Ann Lewis (yes the same maiden name as surname) Born 1821 Raglan. I have found a marriage for them in Bristol June qtr 1845.

Was there a decent transport route?
Was this the fashion?
Were they marrying quick or in secret?
Am I barking up the wrong tree or barking mad?

Unfortunately I don't know the area at all so can you experts please help?

Hi Jane

Just a guess, but do you think there may have been a family link with Bristol?  Perhaps the visitor Mary Ann Francis was a relative as they seem to have named a daughter after her.  It looks like the visitor was unmarried and her occupation was described as 'retired lady'.

Do you know if Lewis was definitely Ann's maiden name or could she have possibly been a Francis and married before?
