1844 Little Clacton Marriage Please
« on: Saturday 21 August 10 14:11 BST (UK) »
I have a Daniel Luff who married in the December quarter of 1844. The FreeBMD entry shows the district to be Tendering and as Daniel was living in Little Clacton in 1841 I assume he married there as well.

I do have Daniel on all the census and it shows that this was a short lived marriage as he married again in 1851 (as a widower) in Hackney so his first wife must have passed away.

were there any children of that first marriage?

If his wife had died by the time of the 1851 census, a childs Birth Papers would show the mother's maiden name - hopefully a match to one of the female names shown in the FreeBMD entry?

Marriages Dec 1844

BROOKS  Mary Ann    Tendring  12 499
FISHER  George     Tendring  12 499
GOSLING  Robert     Tendring  12 499
Luff  Daniel     Tendring  12 499
PHLEGG  Sarah     Tendring  12 499
SMITH  Lucy     Tendring  12 499
STUDD  Barnabas     Tendring  12 499
TYE  Sarah     Tendring  12 499

or alternatively search for deaths 1845 - 1850 of a Luff with one of those forenames in Shoreditch ?

There was a William Luff born in 1845 in Great Clacton and an Ann Elizabeth Luff born in Shoreditch in 1847 according to the 1851 census.

There is a Mary Ann Luff who died in Shoreditch in 1845 and although that would tie in with Mary Ann Brooks from the list it would with regards to the first child being born in Essex but FreeBMD doesn't show a William being born in 1845 in the Clacton area so I am leaning towards Mary Ann Brooks.

Maybe this lass then? (despite forename reversal, not many Luffs around ... ) she'd be 4 in the census
