St Marys Castletown Baptism
« on: Saturday 21 August 10 15:53 BST (UK) »
Hi, can anyone check this for me please. Also is there anymore on Thomas and Emma in the record.

The baptism of Emma is correct, but in 1861 census records there is -
Emma 9   b Castletown    1852
Ellen 6   b Castletown   1855
daughters of Thomas and Emma Hamlin.

IGI
Ellen Hamlin bapt 23 April 1854 St Mary`s Castletown IOM
but there is a Eunice Hamlin bapt 28 Sept 1851 d/o Thomas Hamlin and Eunice.
About the same time  Emma was born, is she the same girl, is there an error. Has Emma been misread  as Eunice. ???

Yes, I`m looking at later directories and can`t see it named.
BUT I`ve found this, I wonder if there is a link with Thomas, I cant find anything on Thomas` birth on IGI.

Latham Blacker Hamlin b 1794 Ireland

Seems you are right, this is a very good site by the way, I have some Wilcoxon / Rooth on the island , but can`t recall which years, living at Leyzare.
I wonder if they are mentioned, is there a `search ` for the whole site somewhere.

FOUND IT
Kings college
Rooth, James Shuttleworth, born Aug. 8th, 1826. Left Oct. 14th, 1841.
[son of John Rooth and Hannah Wilcoxon, b. London, Solicitor d. 1884]

..his is a very good site by the way,
thanks - a mere bagatelle of about 18,000 pages - yes there is a search engine tho not as good as it used to be - the host isp refused to run my preferred engine and forced a google search mechanism which is good for Google but IMO poor.

no civil reg until 1877 or later (see www.manxbmd.com)  thus you need look at marriage/baptism regs - the IGI is based on the 1911 official copy which is available on microfilm to look at - from my experience the official copy is excellent, the IGI extracted records less so and IGI patron submitted best treated as as artistic invention.  The original registers have  now been 'filmed' and sometime there may be  pay to view scheme operated as part of the new iCentre to open next year

The burial regs transcribed with a few gaps and errors by IoMFHSoc - see their site www.iomfhs.im
