Have you lost William JONES of Bermondsey?
« on: Saturday 21 August 10 22:37 BST (UK) »
While looking for my own missing William JONES I came across the following at the National Archives in the Pay & Muster Rolls for the 77th Foot Regiment:

No. 3500 Private William JONES
Place of birth - Bermondsey
Trade on enlistment - Labourer
When enlisted - 10th November 1854
How non-effective - Missing, Crimea (8th September 1855)
Effects of deceased - £2 16s 1/2d
Next of Kin - Father, John, born Bermondsey, Surrey

8th September 1855 was the date of the final attack on the Redan at Sebastopol.

There were two other men of the same name in the regiment.   One was no. 2626, a labourer born in Marylebone, and the other was no. 2976, a cabinet maker born in Worcester.

The National Archives reference is WO 12/8291
