Hi Joanne,
We must be cousins! I also have Queens County CLAXTON ancestors: Maria CLAXTON of Corbally married John O'BRIEN at Roskelton in 1855. Their first three children [including my g-grandfather James Wall O'BRIEN born in Colchester, ENG] were born before they migrated to Tasmania, where more children were born. We met the Blackhills family back in the 1970s when researching in your part of the world. I'd love to exchange more info with you.

I believe that practically all of the Claxtons in Ireland were originally "Clugston" or "Clogstoun", which comes from Galloway, Scotland, and are unrelated to the Claxtons from Norfolk. Many of them used the spelling "Cluxton", as well.
I have a collection of information about this family here:

https://clugstonfamilytree.wordpress.com/home/cluxton/

I'm hoping to find a Claxton male from County Laois or Waterford to do a Y-DNA test to confirm this.

Hi my name is Joanne Claxton and I am from queens county ireland it is now called county laois I am a great great grandaughter of Richard Claxton born 1829 in Ballyroan also I am a great great grandaughter of William claxton and Anne seale, my granny constance elizabeth b1919 was a Claxton before she married my grandad Joseph b1914 who also was a Claxton but they weren't related as I can find!!if u ar interested on some family history please write back and I can tell u everything!!

Hi Joanne
Would I be correct in suggesting that your GG Grandfather Richard had three children, Frances, Emily and Thomas? I would be Emily's grandson, John. Emily and her husband took over the family farm at Dysart Enos when Thomas emigrated to Canada. I visited there regularly as a child in the 60's. I also met Arthur Claxton who lived nearby at Dysart. To me he was an old man who walked over in the evenings an sat with my grandmother and the other adults and chatted all night, possibly he wasn't that old!!
I've started looking into the family history and have gathered a certain amount of information but would love to learn more about the family connections and the various townlands where they farmed. I believe Richards brother John was also related to my grandfathers (Emily's husband) side of the family and my aunt, Emily's eldest daughter, had Seale as a middle name. If you're still available on site it would be great to hear from you.
John.

More Attestion Papers for Claxton's from Maryborough, Queens County, Ireland.............
...............................................................
Thomas Claxton
Regimental # 231168
b. June 17, 1880, Maryborough, Ireland
Next of Kin: Elizabeth Jane Claxton, wife
address: 9644-80th Ave, Edmonton, Alberta
joined March 13, 191A
I wonder if he could be a grandson of William and Anne Claxton

I am confident that this Thomas Claxton is a son of Richard & Elizabeth Claxton - see the 1901 census. Thomas had two sisters, Frances and Emily. Emily was my grandmother, she and her husband took over the family farm when Thomas moved to Canada. The house and farm were called Dysart Enos, which has confused me doing my research as I didn't realise it was also the name of the civil parish!!!   :-\

from the 1911 Irish census
house 1 in Kilminnin, Upper ( Stradbally, Waterford)
Thomas Claxton, head, age 44
Florence, wife, age 22
William, father, age 78
Rebecca F., sister, age 39
Ellen Baker, relative
John Murphy, servant
Edward Galvin, servant

house 62 in O'Connell St, Dungarvan No 1, Urban, Waterford
Edward Claxton, head, age 42
Emily Edith, wife, age 25
Emily Frances, daughter, age 1
Wilhelmina claxton, sister, age 30

The more information you find, the easier it will be to piece all the puzzle together.

This Thomas Claxton will be the eldest son of William Claxton & Anna Seale.
Edward and Wilhelmina must be Thomas's brother and sister as the names and ages match. Wilhelmina (nickname Bunt) married and became surname Moore. I have no further details on Edward, I thought perhaps he had died at a young age so was surprised to see him here at age 42!!
