Would he have had to have provided a birth certificate when he joined the Navy do you think?  Perhaps that early on they weren't that interested in how honest you were so long as they got sailors signed up??

Was anyone listed as being a shore based contact for him??

l had wondered if he had lied about his age when he joined. If he did then l have a couple of Frank's that could possibly tie in, and l was hoping that the Navy records would help.

Last year l even contacted the London Metropolitan Archives and no match for his baptism or birth was found.

Francis William WALLIS Christened 11 Aug 1871 Marylebone.


He lied about his age, and changed his name slightly, to avoid getting caught ?

I'll get me coat !   ::)  ;)
