McGookin Family ** Completed**
« on: Monday 23 August 10 11:15 BST (UK) »
I am looking for information on the McGookin family of Ballyboley or Ballycor of Antrim.  Father was William Andrew McGookin born March 1862.  His wife was Margaret Townsley.  They were married on 28 April 1897.  William died 28 Feb 1934.  Margaret died 5 July 1934.  I have a photo of their headstone which also lists their children Maggie Sarah, Eliza Jane, Catherine and Robert.  The photo has Bally Linney Cemetery.  They were presbyterians.  Would be interested in any information on this family or the whereabouts of the graveyard.  I have them on the 1901 & 1911 Census.

HI

Ballylinney Old Graveyard is about 3-4 miles from Ballyclare. It is near to Ballylinney Presbyterian Church. The Graveyard is run by a committee and they do not have any records as to who is buried in the grave but do have records of who own the graves as far as I remember.

I have some pictures of the graveyard here http://www.flickr.com/photos/37305556@N02/sets/72157616917776661

ADDED: Can you give the links to them on the 1901 and 1911 Census.

HI

I would be intrested in any further information you would have on Eliza Jane Mayne. I have Stewart/Stuart relations who married into the Mayne family and have been trying to trace some of the mayne family tree.

Do you have the Marriage Certificate for William and Margaret. This would tell where Margaret was from.

My ggrandmother was Hannah McGoogan/McGookin, born Co Derry/Londonderry about 1863.

Her father is thought to be William McGoogan and the family were believed to have been involved with the theatre (Hannah was a singer)and performed in halls, barns etc., throughout the country.

Hannah was living in Aghadowey when she married my GGrandfather about 1886.

I would appreciate any information about this branch of the family, so if you find any theatrical McGoogans/McGookins I would love to hear from you.
