Are we looking for the Edward Hewins who was the son of Edwin and Matilda, born Sep 1879 Hinckley 7a 62?  On the 1901 census this Edward is working as a hosiery counter helper.  There is a sailing from Southampton to Quebec on the Ascania arriving June 23, 1913 for Edward Hewins, 27, (this gives you a slightly younger Edward).  HIs destination was Montreal and his occupation in England was shop assistant and his future occupation in Canada was undecided.

Did you find your Edward on the 1911 census in England?

Findmypast shows a few other departures for New York for Hewins under variations of Edward but I haven't picked them up in New York arrivals through ancestry.  You can search for free at Ellis Island arrivals.

Haven't found anything else that seems to be your Edward.
