Hi

I have had a quick look on Ancestry, England 1841, living in Herefordshire born Herefordshire, and also living in Gloucestershire and did not see her.

The marriage certificate, Henry Lewis, Marriages Jul-Sep 1845, Gloucester 11 409 should give the name and occupation of her father and might give her address and occupation before marriage (but then again might not).

Can you tell us where they were living in 1851 and what was Henry's occupation? Also have you got Henry in 1841?

Good luck

Hi Gobbo,
The person who sent the info. on '71 and '61 censuses only said the are living in Gloucester with one child Ellen. Henry was a Ships rigger, Pilot and or Deputy Dock Master. He comes from Bath Somerset born abt.1823.
No, I dont have Henry in 1841 but would appreciate a lookup, not sure if that would be for Somerset or Gloucestershire.
Thanks

Hi

The 1851 census reference for Henry and Eleanor Lewis in Longford St Mary is HO107/1961 132 p23. This recorded Henry as a 27 year-old Mariner. Mariners were often at sea when the census was enumerated and so are missing: this may be why Henry cannot be found in 1841.

It may just be a coincidence of age and surname but the 1841 census for Longford St Mary recorded Susan Simkins, age 15, Female Servant, in the household of Stephen Kimberly, Merchant.

Having had  a look at some of your other threads I don't think you can get much further with the ancestry of either Henry or Eleanor until you get hold of a copy of their marriage certificate and thus discover the names and occupations of their fathers.

Good hunting

Hi

Don't forget to let us know what is on the marriage certificate when you get it.

When you know the fathers you might discover that Henry was a bit younger than the census suggests and Eleanor a bit older!

All the best

I will. but it might take 5 or 6 weeks,as I live in Austria, and took me that long to get certificates before.
