Birmingham - Apna Place
« on: Tuesday 24 August 10 19:56 BST (UK) »
I have just found my gt-grandfather on the 1911 census - the address looks like Apna Place, Saltley, Birmingham - the registration district is Aston.
Can anyone tell me where this was and if it still exists today

Thanks             Jane

Jane,

I don't think you're reading that right. Please may we have a few more details so we can try reading the address?

Keith

thank you both

I`m afraid I haven`t got to grips with the references for censuses but these numbers are at the top of the page -  RG14-18-2-41-18241-0301-03!

The head of the household is Ernest Edgar Blann age 27 born Steyning, Sussex.

Hi Jane

I am assuming you have access to the original image.  If you look above it you should see

Original Images                                            Enumerators book images
Original    Address    Cover                 List    Cover    Details    Totals    Description

If you click on Description, it will show you the area covered by this district.  Hopefully some of the roads mentioned will still exist today.

I don't think this costs any extra.

Linda

Hi Linda
I`ve looked again on Findmypast at the transcript (I had only looked at the original image before) and that says Apna Place, Cato Street, Saltley.  I`ve been able to find Cato Street on my Birmingham A-Z so I`ve got a rough idea of where he was now.

Many thanks for your help

Jane
