Dealtrey family in sculcoates, scruton bedale
« on: Wednesday 25 August 10 14:56 BST (UK) »
My dad's family came from Scruton bedale in yorks, the oonly ancestor I have is Richard Dealtrey b 1847 in Fornton and married Ann Pearse, in 1881 they were living in Newignton, london.
they had amy, albert, frederick, florence and daisy.
Albert r dealtrey  b 1880  married margaret walsh  and was my  gt grandfather and he had  albert sydney my grandad in 1913.

Looking at Richard b 1847 in fornton it gets confusing there seem to be a few possible matches all born in and around Scruton Bedale!!  I have his mariage cert which just lists his father as richard dealtrey! Not much help when there's more than one with that name and same birth year in the same area.

Does anyone have any dealtreys  or daltrys in their family trees for north yorkshie?

Hi Simon (and Dawnsh),

I can see only one Richard Dealtry born 1847 Scruton on the censuses:

1851
HO107/2378 55 22
Scruton, Yorkshire
Village

Richard Dealtry, head, 28, Coachman, b. Durham Raby
Cecely, wife, 35, b. Yorlshire Tunstall
Richard, son, 4, scholar, b. Scruton
Fredrick, son, 3, scholar, b. do.
Emily, dau, 1, b. do.

Did you see any other match?

1861: Richard at RG9/3664 52 6, parents at RG9/3664 39 3

yes that was the one I ordered a marriage cert for on which richard's father is listed as, you guessed it Richard! There is my dead end for the Dealtrey's so far. It is this Richard whom I am stuck at. Lots of Richards in the area at this time abd depending when births were reg'd or when they were born I'm not sure which would be my Richard who marries Cecily's father.

The Richard who marries Cecily's father  ??? Now you've lost me  :P :P

Do we agree this is the birth of your Richard who marries Ann Pearse? (Dealtry isn't exactly a common name!)
Richard Dealtry - Dec 1846 - Bedale 24 365

And this his parents' marriage:
Richard Dealtry - Cecily Johnson
Mar 1846 Bedale 24 323

Are you saying you have the Richard / Cecily marriage and yet again the dad is Richard?

In 1861, Richard sr.'s birth place is Staindrop. I think I've found his christening here, listed on genuki:
http://genuki.cs.ncl.ac.uk/Transcriptions/DUR/XSTD_A-J.html

DEALTRY, Richard - parents Richard + Mary of New Raby, Whipper-in, 27 Dec 1823

siblings:
Quote
DEALTRY, Christopher - Richard + Mary of New Raby, Huntsman, 13 Dec 1830
DEALTRY, Elizabeth - Richard + Mary of Raby, Whipper-in, 14 Feb 1827
DEALTRY, Emma - Richard + Mary of New Raby, Huntsman, 18 Apr 1837
DEALTRY, Hannah - Richard + Mary of New Raby, Huntsman, 16 Dec 1832
DEALTRY, James - Richard + Mary of New Raby, Huntsman, 16 Nov 1828
DEALTRY, Jane - Richard + Mary of New Raby, Whipper-in, 8 Oct 1822
DEALTRY, Mary - Richard + Mary of New Raby, Huntsman, 26 Jun 1825

This leads us to the Dealtrey family living at New Shildon in 1841, reference HO107/307 19 67 16 (shout if you need full details). Father Richard is an Innkeeper.

You're lucky! It seems Richard and Mary were married in Staindrop, and the pilot familysearch site has the bishop's transcripts online.

http://pilot.familysearch.org/recordsearch/start.html#w=0&p=waypoint&s=waypointsOnly&c=fs%3A1309819
Durham > Staindrop > 1814 - 1898

602 pages to wade through, but I did the hard work for you - the marriage is on page 75  :)

It doesn't say Richard was a widower but he probably was - there's a marriage to a Jane a few years earlier (can't remember which page it was), and a christening of an Ann to Richard and Jane in 1820. There are burials for Ann Dealtry, of Raby, 2 wks - buried 3 Feb 1820 and Jane Dealtry, of Raby Castle, 31 yrs - buried 23 Jan 1820.

That's fantastic, sorry about my mix up earlier never type and try to think with 2 small children runing around behind you!
 I had Richard  b.1824 marrying Cecily b. 1820
their son was Richard b.1847, marrying Ann Pearse
his son was Albert r Dealtrey b. 1880 marrying margaret Walsh
their son was my grandad Albert Sydney.

I don't have a mariage cert for Cecily and Richard  or anyone of the couples so far that was why I was stumped, I think but you've done some fantastic research on my behalf. When the kids are out today I wil go through it all.  My Dad would love to go up to Yorks on the trail.  I had an idea that some of those names were correct matches but was hesitant to add in case I went off on the wrong line :D
