goodness me I've just looked at the transcripts! You must have gone cross eyed looking through those. I've added them to our family tree, my dda is thrilled to bits as we thought we had a dead end.  I'll go through the census details you gave me next and add them as well.  The family seem to like the name Richard don't they?!

I think I am being a little dull pottering round the ancestry site I can't find them in those census years only Christopher dealtrey later on when he is 57. Do you search a different site like thefamilysearch?  Clairex

If you're using old search on ancestry, you can just enter the census references and the page should come up. Seeing as the transcribers seem to have a hard time reading their name in each census, you won't find them under Dealtr(e)y very often.

1841: Desttsey family at St Andrew Auckland

1851: Richard 1823's widowed mother Mary is in Sedgefield with 2 of her daughters, Eliza age 12 and Harriet age 9, surname Bealty HO107/2384 641 2

Christopher born ca. 1830 and and his sister Mary born ca. 1826 are both in service at Scruton, surname Deatley. Richard and his wife 'Carly' are shown as Deatley as well. Sister Jane Dealtrey is in service at Bishopton Durham and brother James Dealtry is visiting in Middlesbrough Yorkshire. Sister Sarah 'Deathy' is in service at Stranton Durham.

I can't see Hannah in 1851 but in 1861 she's living with brother Christopher & sister Harriet as well as 2 nephews (surname Iliff - they should belong to sister Elizabeth who married a William Iliff in 1852) at Sedgefield, surname 'Deatlrey'.

thanks you so much for all that. I've just got back from being away so I'm sorting through all the info to add to the family tree. My Dad is chuffed to bits as he knew zero about the Dealtrey family other than his Dad's name!

Hi all,

I have an interest in Jane Dealtrey, who was recorded in the census in Bishopton in 1851.

My great great grandfather, William Shaw, had a son, Robert William, registered in Bishopton in 1856, whose wife is called Jane, who came from either Raby or Staindrop according to later censuses.  I suspect that this might be the same Jane, as the age also matches, though I've found no record of any marriage.

Any thoughts on this?

Cheers,

George
