Charles TOCOCK b 1847 or 1856?
« on: Wednesday 25 August 10 18:17 BST (UK) »
I have been given information regarding the Tocock family, but when I checked, I became unsure that the links were all correct.

Phillip Tocock (b1827) m Barbara Rose (b1825) in 1854

Their son, Charles Tocock (b1856) m Elizabeth Burn Lee (b 1853 York) in 1877

Their son, Thomas Tocock (b1887, Staines) m Elizabeth May Day b 1893) in 1911

I am having difficulty confirming that Charles was the son of Philip, because the only information I can find is contradictory:

1) The 1861 census shows Phillip and Barbara Tocock living with their son Charles Tocock - b1847 - 9 years out from my source, BUT I cannot find any Charles Tocock born before 1856 in FreeBMD.

2) The 1861/1871 show four Charles Tococks born in 1856/57, but none have Phillip or Barbara as parents.

So, has a mistake been made?

Does anybody have a information that would confirm that either:

1) Thomas Tocock (b1887) son of Charles (b1847) son of Phillip
2) Thomas Tocock (b1887) son of Charles (b1856) son of John and Mary
3) Thomas Tocock (b1887) son of Charles (b1856) son of Charles and Mary

(I cannot go back to the person who gave me the family tree it was given anonymously).

Thank you very much for your help - and if anybody wants my information on the Tococks form Staines, let me know.

Hi and welcome to Rootschat

Advice - never trust anybody else's version of your ancestry - always do your own research.  Many people make assumptions or "claim" people because they happen to have the right names

Let's start from your own FH - where do Philip and Barbara fit into your tree - are you descended from Charles or another of their children

The 1877 marriage between Charles and Elizabeth is correct.  It was on 19.7.1877 at St Olave York and Charles father was Philip

Charles birthyear is shown as 1854 - he was 23 at the time of marriage and Elizabeth was 24 and her father was Thomas

Thanks for the swift replies. I am descended from Charles Tocock.

I will have a good look at the information tomorrow, but it looks very interesting.
