Hi Aghadowey and Carole

I also had a look last night - too late for me to make any sense in my head! Have to agree with all the Carole has found on the Scottish censuses. Apart from the two possible entries that Carole has found (John and Dora, John and Jane) nothing much else stood out.

Just in case, the family never left for Scotland, searching for Cissie which is less common, there was this entry in 1911 Ireland www.census.nationalarchives.ie/reels/nai001422999/

Hi Brian  :)

This looks to be the family that Carole found earlier and which Aghadowey has managed to discount now from the marriage cert for John and Dora in 1876.

Found one more entry Sancti  ;D

Just putting down this 1901 census entry. Lots fit but lots doesn't. We have at least three possible names from the list of children you have Aghadowey - Janet/Jessie, James, Andrew.

John Christie 41, gardener b. Maybole Ayrshire
Isabella Christie 38, b. Edinburgh
Janet Christie 8 b. Bothwell
Susan G Christie 6 b. Bothwell
James Christie 5 b. Bothwell
Andrew H Christie 2 b. Bothwell
Joseph Kirkpatrick 21, boarder
Wm Bannerman 22, boarder

Address: Greenrig St, Bothwell Lanarkshire

Found this family as a birth I found on general searches on SP is likely to be for them. The Susan above I think was born in 1894 in Lanarkshire and is indexed as Susan Gilmour Christie - which I thought might connect with John's mother.

I cannot find an IGI birth in Maybole for this John. Also, can't easily see him in the earlier censuses except 1891, where he shows as Maybole born and a gardener at the Kirklands Lunatic Asylum in Bothwell, aged 29.

Monica

Added: The Isabella above I think is Isabella Henderson, born on 18 APR 1862 in Edinburgh to Andrew Henderson and Janet Beveridge. Isabella shows in the Bothwell 1891 census as a servant at the Kirklands Lunatic Asylum, where John Christie above was also working.

Blimey  ;D I think it is the right John!

John Christie married Isabella Henderson in August 1892 in Rutherglen (Church of Scotland). His residence shows as the Bothwell Asylum, aged 32 and a gardener by occupation. His parents James Christie, a forester and deceased and mother Susan Gilmour, also deceased.

Parents for Isabella as we had from IGI, with father an Iron Moulder journeyman. Likely Henderson family were witnesses, a John and Annie Henderson.

I am thinking perhaps the daughter Cissie, could have been a pet name for Susan b. 1894.

John Henderson 3 b. Coatbridge
Ann Henderson 1 b. Coatbridge

Address: Hamilton Road, Whifflet, Old Monkland Eastern District

1881:

Andrew Henderson 45, Iron Moulder Steelworks b. Dunfermline, Fifeshire
Janet Beveridge Or Henderson 46
Janet Henderson 21
Helen Henderson 16
John Henderson 13
