Is there anyone who can tell me how to access lists of prisoners who were transported to Australia circa 1858
I have a man who 's court case was in 1858, he was convicted of larceny, he seems to have disappeared since that date, no findings of him on 1861 census in England, I can only think he was transported, any help would be much appreciated

I think IF transported would ONLY have been to WA  ;) but we can check with the name please  AND
how long was that sentence he received....

Thanks for your PM Louisa Maud... I understand your reluctance to publish his name here on the thread.

His criminal record states he was only sentenced to 9 months so chances are he was not transported. 

I will see what else I can find for you

Oh, I didn't find he was sentenced to 9 months, I just found him isted under Chelmsford assizes 1858, no sign of him after that which makes me think he must have been transported but perhaps not
