Hi Sue,

Lost of places mentioned on Rootschat - each does a different bit

For Scratches etc try this
http://www.restoring-photos-made-easy.com/Basic-Removal-of-Scratches-in-Photos.html

For colouring our own Kizmaiz is great

Cheers

My very, very best investment was a graphics tablet. It's marvellous. I'm left handed so I use the graphics pen to draw/do the fine detail and the mouse to do the regular stuff.

ooh it looks complicated.......

As Berlin Bob has told me - "You must learn something New every day"

With me it's a small bit every week - but a bit more sticks each time - the satisfaction is enormous - I have just had a go a my first tartan kilt!!  ;D

Do a few as practice and ask on here - there are a few experts - and lots of triers like me - and we all help each other.

So keep asking

Cheers

Keith

P.S. I have crossed the border back to my roots again Gaget!  ;D

Hope you all don't mind me butting in.

First time I've been on Rootschat!!!! I came on to look for something entirely different......Co Durham Parish Records........saw this thread and my Parish Records have gone out the window.

The fixed photographs are brilliant.

I had Photoshop....but took it off and put Photoshop Elements on......they are both a minefield.........use it for redeye ..... resizing......cropping ..... brightning .... but little else.

Layers.....well can't get my head around them.

I printed all the 'help' off Photoshop and it filled a full A4 ringbinder.....tried to sit and read it....it's as clear as mud.

I think you are all brill

What photo programme would you recommend, please, for cleaning up / restoring old photos?
Out of all those mentioned, which, do you think, is most straightforward, but gives best results?

Thanks. :)

Not quite sure where to post 'fixing questions' but here goes.

I've been trying to follow one of the tutorials for Photoshop Elements, on Layers.

Can anyone please tell me how I can get a black Mask Layer ?  I've been mucking about for ages....I can get a white one but it comes as a seperate layer with a gradiant, not on its own, beside the background copy as I wanted it.  I was trying to get scratches off a photograph.
