1891 Census look up request please William H De Vigne
« on: Tuesday 05 April 05 10:15 BST (UK) »
Hi,

I don not know where or if this family are in the UK in 1891 but am hoping someone will have a look on the 1891 census for me.

William H De Vigne aged 27
Annie R De Vigne aged 26
Charles De Vigne  3

In the 1901 census they are living on the Isle Of white and in 'where born' they are listed as British Subjects.  There are several surname variants. (Devine, De Vine) I have possiblity for William in 1881 census, ? born India.

Thanks for your time.

 :)

Douglas, Brown, Entwistle, Reed, Parsons, Copperwaite, Farrow, Barnes, Cowx, McCallum, Stobbart, Bowsell, Iredale, Marshall.

Hi Harvey Rabbitt

I had no success looking in 1891 for the family under any of the possible names or variants, so I had a look in the GRO Births overseas index for Charles. He isn't there under Dev* or De V* or even Vi*. Can't find him in the English list either but I only looked in FreeBMD so I might have missed him. :(

Did your 1881 possibility have William with any parents or relatives that might be another way in to look at 1891?

Best wishes

Angela

And most especially the origins of William Cannings,  a Baptist, born abt 1791 in Broughton Gifford, Wiltshire

HI,

The 1881 ref  has William  in a boarding house with no parents of relatives. Also I am a bit dubious about if it is my man as someone looked up the original for me and they think it is Irvine not Divine.

Thanks for you help,

Harvey

William H de vigne was originally William Henry Roberts but also went by the names; William H De Vigne, Harold Claude de Vigne, Claude De Vigne and also de Vique.
If anyone finds anything relating to these names please let me know.
If anyone is researching people connected to these names get in touch. I have collected together a lot of background information which is very interesting about him and his family.
