Hi dee-jay

That is definitely them - cant think how you found them What a star you are :-*

Think I better do some research into the Winsborough,

My first thought was that perhaps Andrew wasn't Johns father but with the  marriage of Eliza and Andrew taking place in 1809 that doesn't make much sense.

So a couple of other speculations

1.  The winsboroughs didn't approve of the marriage and on Andrews death they took the Winsborough name-  But why not all the time.

2. There was a condition in a will or something maybe :-\

3. they were on the run and hiding - really need to investigate his police record

If SKS with access to Ancestry could take a look, there is a John FLASHMAN recorded 7 Mar 1864 Middlesex in the England & Wales Criminal Registers:  if only for the purposes of elimination?  ::)

I was actually writing this when your message came in!

There is a burial record for Andrew Rogers FLASHMAN aged 35 on 20 Jun 1822 [bap 28 Mar 1785] Ermington, so John would barely have known his father.  Has anyone located John's marriage, bearing in mind that first known child recorded in a census was Ann E. born circa 1849?

Update:
GRO Birth Index 2Q 1848 Ann Eliza FLASHMAN  Stoke Damerel 9 451
SOM/Chard/Combe St Nicholas/Ilminster:  Dean[e]/Doble/Jeffery/Burt;  DEV/Yarcombe:  Dean/Gill/Every;
BRK/Newbury:  Westall/Green/Lewis/Canning;  WIL/Allcannings:  Hiscock/Amor;  Froxfield:  Hobbs/Green;  HAM/Kingsclere:  Martin/Hiscock/Westall;  WAR/Marton/Bubbenhall:  Glenn/Holmes;  STS/Yoxall/Hamstall Ridware/Barton-u-Needwood:  Holmes/Dainty;  STS/Brewood/Codsall/Penkridge/Hatherton:  Dean[e]; GLA/Aberdare:  Dean/Dane

Pricilla found this which is listed on my other thread

IGI has marriage listed for a John Flashman to Ann Richards Prout - 20th July 1836 Plymouth Charles, Devon
On another entry on the IGI the marriage date is given as 2nd July 1836 at Charles the Martyr, Plymouth.

There is on the IGI  a baptism to a John and Ann in Ermington

Henry Flashman 1st April 1838

:-\ could be my John and Ann :-\   the timing from the marriage would work

looking at the map although it is a fair distance from Plymouth it is close to Modbury and Ugborough where Johns parents got married
