But where oh where is Elizabeth :-\

Not too sure - but I am wondering whether she may have become a Howard! :-\

There is an Elizabeth Howard, tailoress with a daughter (Annie/Amy?) at RG12; Piece: 121; Folio 72; Page 62 in 1891. There is an Elizabeth Howard, milliner with a daughter Lily at RG11; Piece: 384; Folio: 70; Page: 18 in 1881. An Agnes Clara Howard witnesses the wedding of Ann Eliza.

That looks promising :)

couldn't find Annie Cleary or any spelling variation.

I shall go and investigate

Well done Nigel :) :-*

So I wonder what Philip was doing away from the family on the 1881 census.  I had assumed that they had seperated, but if they had it must have only just happened if Annie was born on the 23rd Feb.

Certainly seems to be the same Elizabeth but on the 1881 census with Lily she is down as unmarried :-\

and by 1891 a widow.

Maybe they left Philip but if this is the right one where is Annie she must only be a few months old :-\

In the 1901 census there is an Ann E. Howard, boarder, aged 20 born at Bethnal Green at RG13; Piece: 295; Folio: 93; Page: 10.

However, there is also Elizabeth Howard, tailoress at RG13; Piece: 130; Folio: 54; Page: 30 with a daughter (Amy?) which suggests that perhaps the 1891 Census entry is not relevant.

If Elizabeth and the children have taken the name Howard - why?  ::)

Or Philip and Elizabeth had split up and Philip wanted the kids so she went into hiding :-\

Wow, Nigel...some super-sleuthing there, that's for sure!
Going back to Elizabeth
I think this is probably her in the 1871 census
RG10; Piece: 565; Folio: 94; Page: 41
1 Louvain Street, Stepney
Surname looks to have been recorded as Hasham, but someone has added an alternative name of Flashman
Anne, widow, 55, needlewoman, b.Mile End, Middx
Anne E, dtr, 23, tailoress, b.Devonport, Devon
Elizabeth, dtr, 20, tailoress, b. Devonport, Devon
Louisa, dtr, 10, scholar, b.Exeter, Devon

There is the birth of an Elizabeth Mahala Flashman registered in Qtr 3 1851 Stoke Damerel (which covered Devonport)
