Is this your Elizabeth?

1881 Isallt Fawr, Holyhead
RG11; Piece: 5595; Folio: 46; Page: 5
Ellen Owens head age 60, farmer occ 30 acres, b Rhoscolyn
Robert Williams, servant, age 38, agric labourer, b Holyhead
Catherine Hughes, servant, age 18, General Servant (domestic) b Rhoscolyn

I asked our friend DW from Anglesey List to look for any illegitimate birth regs of an Elizabeth or Elizabeth Anns in Rhoscolyn 1882/1883 possibly with connection to Parkia and this is what he found:

HUGHES   Elizabeth   .(no father)    Catherine   HUGHES    5-Dec 1882  Parkia, Rhoscolyn
Registered by Robert HUGHES, occupier, Parkia, Rhoscolyn
HUGHES   Ceturah   Robert      Elizabeth   JONES   22-Aug 1863 Parcia, Rhoscolyn
HUGHES   Margaret   Robert      Elizabeth   JONES   2-Mar 1853  Parcia, Rhoscolyn
Both were registered by their mother and he is a labourer

Rhoscolyn is located on Holy Island.  It is quite a small area, populated by smallholdings.  I think Jane and Morris adopted Jane's younger sister Catherine's illegitimate child.  Perhaps they added the name Ann in memory of Morris' mother.

Obviously you need more research to conclusively prove out this theory. Finding Jane's baptism/birth c1845 at Rhoscolyn/Llanfairyneubwll - possibly as a JONES, d/o Elizabeth for a start.   But I do think this possible solution to your puzzle is worth some consideration.

As a matter of interest, who were the witnesses on the 1875 Rhoscolyn marriage?

Hi Heather  am astonished with all the information which you have found. The Morris Owen in the 1841/51 census is indeed the father of Morris Owen who married Jane in 1875 the witnesses to this marriage were Morris Owen and Robert Hughes and the date was 29th March 1875.I have the death of Jane 23rd March 1905  . Morris then left North Wales and moved to Porth South Wales to live near his daughter [adopted ?] .Morris remarried a Margaret Thomas on 26th Dec 1906 and died on 8th March 1932 in Ynyshir . I cannot thankyou and you friend for all the assistance you have given me. Will now take time to digest it all, but my gut feeling is that you have solved my "brick wall" after about 8yrs. Regards Alun.

Hi  Heather  If I had any hair it would now be grey. Have  found the following  Jane Jones born 11/8/44 at Ty'n y lon, LLanfairyeubll to mother Elizabeth Jones no father mentioned.I believe this would explain that that the Jane who married Morris was not the daughter of Robert Hughes but the illegitimate daughter of the Elizabeth who he married. This would explain why she was Jane Jones when she married Morris.  Alun.

Hi Alun

I'm sorry if this scandalous news but an interesting find nonetheless :)     What would really help now would be to find a marriage at Llanfairyneubwll between an Elizabeth Jones, spinster, and Robert Hughes, widower, mid 1840s.    Will try to find out and post results.

Hi Everyone Latest update. Have now located the marriage of Robert Hughes, blacksmith also a widower to a Elizabeth Jones , spinster on 12/2/1850 parish church, LLanyghenedl. At the time Elizabeth was living at Ty'n Tynwyn and her father was Hugh Jones labourer. Without all your help I do not believe I would have ever discovered all the  information relating to my ancestors for which I am extremely grateful. Regards Alun.
