Last boat from Jersey before German Occupation
« on: Wednesday 01 September 10 14:11 BST (UK) »
My mother Phyllis Renouf and my big sister Irene Renouf left Jersey on the last boat out from the island before the German Occupation 1940. Is there anyone that has a list of the passengers on that boat. Was there such a list of people travelling then.  My mother told me that it was a coal boat and it was a very rough journey.

I can't help with the specific enquiry but I live in Guernsey and as the 70th anniversary of the occupation has recently passed there has been a great deal in the local paper the Guernsey Press about the evacuations and the last boats. I'm sure Jersey would have had similar coverage so I suggest you contact their local newsaper which you can do through this website: http://www.thisisjersey.com/
Every account talks of the rough seas and the sickness so this seems to be common and the other common thread is that the parents had only a few hours to decide whether to evacuate their children not knowing if the occupation would last weeks or years - imagine...... of course they couldn't visit either or even receive letters so it must have been a terrible decision.

Hello Jersey Ann

I was on the coal boat in question and would like anybody who was also on the coal boat to get in contact with me via (*).

Thank you for your time and effort in finding these people.

Frank.
