William Cadman
« on: Thursday 02 September 10 09:15 BST (UK) »
I am looking for information on my ggggrandfather.
William Henry Cadman is shown on the 1851 census as being born in Falkirk (Folkirk on census) in 1817.  On the 1871 census he is shown as being born in Glasgow in 1812.  I can find no 1861 census record.  He moved from Scotland to Wolverhampton and married Mary who is shown on one census as being born in 1818 and 1815 on the other.  There is a 50% possibility that Mary may have been nee Blegen.
They had five children, one of which was Thomas - my gggrandfather.
Part of the family moved to Castleford in Yorkshire.

Hi

Carron is in the central belt, just north of Falkirk  but can't find a baptism for him in Stirlingshire or in Scotland as a whole so it might be that you have to go the marriage route. The most likely is Mar q, 1838, Wolverhampton, v 17 p 248

Sadly, there are two Mary's on the page  - a Roberts and a Rogers

So, it might be that you have to get Thomas's birth cert to find out Mary's surname. This looks like it could be him:

Thomas Cadman, Sept q, 1838, Wolverhampton, v 17 page 307

Hi again

I noticed the David Cadman, nephew, 18,  on Pam's 1861 listing.

This is , I think,  is the family

1851
16 Cannon Street,
HO107/2019/567/23

Cadman
David, 41, coal miner, b. Staffs, Bilston
Louisa, 40
Mary, 11
David, 8,
Catherine, 6
Steven, 2
John Lewis, lodger, 22, stone miner

All but David senior b. Wolverhampton

David, snr, also shown as b. Staffordshire in 1841 HO107/999/13/30/23
Louisa's maiden name appears to be  Bate.

Also, with William and Mary on the 1841 HO107/999/12/15/22  is a 19 year old Mary Cadman born Staffordshire.  She might possibly be a sister or close relative of William.

I wonder if the family moved between Staffs and Scotland. it might be worth trying to trace David and Mary in Staffordshire  to maybe find their parents.
