Walter Jones-Can you help?
« on: Saturday 04 September 10 04:45 BST (UK) »
Hi I am wondering if anyone can help me. I am looking for information on my great grandfather. He was born in 1871, his name is Walter Jones. In 1897 he married my great grandmother Florence Stubbles, She was born in 1873-4. They married in St. Barnabas' Church in the parish of S.Barnabas, Kensington, in the county of London. They had my grandmother Florence in 1900. I have found him in the 1911 census but have not been able to find him in any other.
I have information of his war service saying that he was a private in the Royal Defence corps and that he died in1918 on the 22nd Nov. he is listed as commonwealth war dead and is buried at Brookwood Military cemetry, grave/memorial ref V1.C10A
That is all I have on him and i would really like to find out more. I have no one left in my family to ask. How can i go about finding the information i want. i would like to know who his parents were,where his was born and did he have brother's and sisters. There seems to be a huge hole in my knowledge of this man.
Can you help?

Hi

According to his marriage details his father was Walter JONES a carpenter.  With luck something might come up on the Census for them.  I will check for you.

Cheers

Looks like Mary's husband was Christopher James KEARLEY, married 15 Oct 1899 at St Barnabas Kensington.

Sorry Karenlee

I have been going through the Census trying to find a Walter with a father Walter who was a carpenter.  Not having much luck with that though.  Tried both England and Wales.  Will have another look.

I found it interesting that Walter and mary's husband could have been away at the boar war, i hadn't thought of that being a reason they weren't on the census. Another interesting thing i noticed was mary's surname you have as kearley when i thought it was frearley. I checked it out and i was wrong but the funny thing is that mary's mother was a kearley before she married richard stubbles.
Marilyn. ::)
