Monmouth - local knowledge needed
« on: Saturday 04 September 10 14:06 BST (UK) »
Hi, I'm trying to locate my ancestor Bevis Williams and have found him in the 1841 census in Monmouth.

He is living at an address in Drybridge Street but I'm cant make out the name. I've had some suggestions from people on the relevant board and we think it might be "Great House - Drybridge Street".

Does anyone know if this was a legitimate address?

Here is the image of the address just in case any of you have any further suggestions

Many thanks

Hi

Not local but I do have an 1841 address listing.

There are two households listed as Dry Bridge Street, Great House ~ one of which is headed by Beaves Williams aged 70

Think that's your man!

I'll see if it was there on the 1851 as well*

Thank you very much for clarifying that for me  ;D.  Just now need to figure out which is Great House ... sounds quite grand  :o.

He is in church street in 1851 census and died the same year but thank you once again for checking those years.

Off to research Great House now!

Cheers again

Hi Welsh Lady, can I ask where you found that info so I can annotate my tree?

Thanks again

Hi Gadget

Just wondered if you could tell me who was living in other Great House address? It might then allow me to trace those in 1851 and try to work out where the property is. 1851 gives Beaves the rather splendid occupation of "proprieter of houses" ... wonder what he did?

Hi Deb

It is immediately after and on the next page but there does seem to be a motley household grouped with Beaves Williams - I'm sure that I see a separator after Thomas Williams and before Thomas Nash.

Then there's a -do-  for

David Thomas, 60 Ag lab, etc. (which is the other name allocated to Great House by my address listing)

Ref is HO107/752/3/42/7

The next entry is for St Thomas Street, if that gives you any clues.
