George Savage died 1882 in New Zealand..born Helsby.Cheshire

Isn't this so typical of the way family history quests go? When my search initially started wishing to find out just how George came to a) be in New Zealand & b) what was his cause of death for someone so young?

Not unlike a game of 'snakes and ladders.'

I will find time tomorrow to look at the two sites you kindly located for me   ,Druid..



I attended Saint John's Ambulance Brigade   Nursing Cadets at the Hillside school..then the Secondary Modern..under the guidance of Mrs.Ardern ,whose husband was Police Sergeant in Helsby..

My youngest brother is talking of a long distance holiday next year...? South America OR ? New Zealand..HELP!!How can I (without obvious pressure) 'encourage' my brother to opt for New Zealand??

Not that I have any real reason..have I ?? Well, my brother could do a wee bit of research, obtain a copy of George Savage death certificate & where George is interred..

Through various enquiries,I am slowly creating contacts re George Savage

   Apologies for not having been around for several weeks,our daughter has been very ill, priorities first..thankfully,'she' is now, very slowly improving.Long way to go, but progress indeed.  I thought I would update you,especially in view of the way you have so kindly helped me in my quests.

our daughter is continuing to make slow progress  which means I feel more 'at peace' resuming my various quests into my great uncle,George Savage.

I have made good contacts with the BMD in North Island,excellent guidance in purchasing a copy of George Savage death certificate. Next is to see if I can obtain a copy of the inquest into George Savage tragic death.

Another contact led me to the advert announcing the auction of George's goods and belongings...to pay for his funeral no doubt.

From being a name at the foot of his parents headstone, my great uncle is now becoming a person in his own right.

Massive progress made this past 24 hours or so. I finally logged into the New Zealand 'Rots' site, have posted there for help in researching my late Uncle,George Savage. Excellent help given..

Having amassed a considerable amount of infrmation, Last night,I ordered a copy of George Savage death certificate..plus, from he Record Office at Chester, a copy of my great grandad David Savage 'last will & testament.'

I feel like a child waiting for Santa Claus delivering amazing Christmas gifts.. .

I never for one moment antipated gathering so much information on my uncle, by remembering my 'promise' to discover as much as I could on what was the cause of George Savage's demise?

Isn't it amazing how far 'ROOTS' can grow? Between the Cheshire ROOTS & New Zealand ROOTS a lot of progress has been made in my quest.

Yesterday, I received a copy of George Savage's death certificate. I now know George left Helsby in possibly 1878, OR, was it 1877 knowing these sailings could take many months. It makes sad reading on my uncle's death certificate as to how little information was available to the coroner-his parents name, a supposed age, is possibly thought to come from Helsby,Cheshire,England. Employed as a labourer. This,I am pursuing through the N.Z ROOTS.

What led George to leave a stable home life?

Does anyone have knowledge of any disaster taking place in Cheshire(Helsby) farming. Maybe if anyone has access to the Cholmondoley records, there may be some information there?
