WOOLF family in Queensland
« on: Sunday 05 September 10 03:33 BST (UK) »
Looking for info on the Woolf family. Thomas James Woolf was born in March 1869 Baumber Lincolnshire. His parents were David Woolf and Rebecca Proctor.
In July 1887 He sailed for Australia on the Dacca, landing at Brisbane Queensland. We have also found him on voter’s lists for Herbert and Mackay. In 1911/12 his sister Mary came out and joined him. Have found her with last name of Brownsey and her death in August 22 1960 Queensland. When she came out she brought her son. However can not find any record of her as to exact arrival as am not sure what name she was. She was in the 1901 census in Cheshire England as Mary Woolf, but can not locate a marriage at all. She had both a son and a daughter –and left the daughter with her parents in England so am not sure if she had two marriages.
Thomas James died in June 30 1955 Queensland.
Have also tried to locate Queensland census records but it seems they have been destroyed.
Any help or advice as to how to locate Mary greatly appreciated.

She was in the 1901 census in Cheshire England as Mary Woolf, CRACKPOT

Gerry,
I wonder if the arrivals you have spotted may be MARY ANNA MALE and her husband ALBERT who have registered births to them in QLD after 1882 but none showing before.

Crackpot,
I wonder if you are able to tell us the name of the son who arrived with MARY.

Did he use the surname BROWNSEY?

In 1911/12 his sister Mary came out and joined him.

Also, what information do you have that leads to this statement, please?

Sue,

Some Electoral Roles match up Mary Anna Brownsey and Albert James Brownsey around Mackay.

1910 Mary Anna Brownsey HD & Albert James Nrownsey Farmer both at Westport Farm McGregor Creek near Mackay.

1922 Mary Anna Brownsey HD & Albert James Brownsey Lab both at Dow's Creek near Mackay

1934 Mary Anna Brownsey Bagley St Mackay

1949 Mary Brownsley 12 Holland St Mackay.

I think Albert had died in 1928

Well spotted Sue,

What is interesting is in the 1949 Electoral Roll has Thomas James Woolf and Mary Brownsey both residing at the same address in Mackay ie, 12 Holland St.
