Hello, Dawn,

Have a look at this site, it shows a list of passengers on the Henry Porcher 23/09/1832 but nothing for a Thoma Deane & family.

Hi

According to the NSW unassisted immigrant passengers lists, on 29th June 1833 the Henry Porcher arrived from London at Port Jackson, NSW via Hobart Town.  It did indeed set sail on 23rd September 1832; what a long journey in those days!  Looking at the images, on board were:

Thomas DEANE aged 27 a labourer of England
Thomas DEANE age 20 months

In the margin it states that Thomas Deane's wife died on the voyage.

No other info is given unfortunately.

Hi

27th November 1831 All Souls, Langham Place born 31st October (duplicate entry St Marylebone)
Thomas Deane parents Thomas and Eliza, 3 William Street, father's occupation trade

not a labourer in 1831

I know C19th South Australian certificates are less informative than other Australian states but when did 'young' Thomas Deane die? Does his death certificate give information on both his parents' names?

Regards

Valda

Hi Valda
I do have information on Thomas Edward Deane and his father Thomas Deane Sr. married Eliza Reynolds she was born in Sydney New South Wales and died on the voyage  back to Australia.Thomas Deane death certificate gives very little information he died in 1853 in Adelaide South Australia.Their marriage certificate from England gives no place of Birth or any other information.I have found no records in South Australia or in New South Wales anything recorded to where he came from in England.
Trying to trace what county he was born in that 's the puzzle.

Hi

Have established from the information from Thomas Edward Deane's death or marriage certificate his mother was Eliza nee Reynolds? Does Thomas Edward Deane's death certificate confirm he was born in London/Middlesex? Is it the information from Thomas Edward's Australian records that connects the family to London at least in the early 1830s?

Hi  Valda
Thomas Edward Deane Jr.was born 31.10.1831 London Middlesex, which is on his baptism, his death certificate doe's not state where his father was born the informant on T.E.Deane Jr. death certificate who died in 1896 was his son-in-law William Willoughby Shaw he did not know. They where living in the London area till they left for Australia in 1833 on the Henry Porcher.Perhaps there might be some other documents in London that might indicate where Thomas Dean Sr. born in 1806 came from.

Hi

The Marylebone baptism in 1831 was for a Thomas Deane not a Thomas Edward Deane

Quote
27th November 1831 All Souls, Langham Place born 31st October (duplicate entry St Marylebone)
Thomas Deane parents Thomas and Eliza, 3 William Street, father's occupation trade

The father Thomas was in trade meaning a shopkeeper or a skilled craftsman in business not a labourer.

Does Thomas Edward Deane's death certificate in 1896 confirm

1. He was born in London
2. His mother was Eliza Reynolds

Are there any Australian records which confirm this Marylebone family is Thomas Edward Deane's?

Another possible candidate for the 1831 Marylebone baptism

1841 census HO107 680/15 folio 6
St Marylebone Workhouse St Marylebone, Middlesex
Thomas Deane 10 Pauper school Boy born in county

At present the IGI (Family Search) is the only national index for baptisms in England but it does not have coverage of all parish registers and is missing many baptisms. Just because a baptism is found on the IGI at about the right time does not unfortunately make it the correct baptism and Deane is not an uncommon surname. The south Australian records will not confirm where Thomas Deane senior was born but first it is important to establish that his son Thomas Edward Deane was in fact born in London and that his mother was Eliza Reynolds. What information do the Australian records give for Thomas Edward Deane? I have not asked about his father because I know civil registration records in South Australia that early will not give sufficient information to establish anything about his birth. You seem to state that no information was given on Thomas Edward Deane's death certificate in 1896 about his birth or parentage?
Does his marriage certificate give any useful information?

You state Eliza Reynolds was born in Australia. Can you give some more information to try to trace further her family as her family might help?
