William Rigby b.1813 help
« on: Monday 06 September 10 09:44 BST (UK) »
Hi

I was wondering if anyone could help. I have a William Rigby b. 1813 Preston, Lancashire according to the 1851 census. Trying to find parents or any info about him.

In 1851 he is living in Lambeth with children Anne 1842, Mary 1844, John James 1848, Emily 1850 and Harriet his housekeeper. He is a widower. On 1861 census he is married to Harriet. Can't find marriage to Harriet.javascript:swapOptions();

Need help in finding details of his first wife and details of his children's birth

Hoping someone can help

Thanks
Gail

William Charles Rigby Batchelor??  Hatter
Age: Full Age
Estimated birth year: abt 1852
Spouse Name: Harriet Caple Spinster
Record Type: Marriage
Event Date: 18 Jan 1852
Parish: St Nicholas, Plumstead
County: Middlesex
Borough: Greenwich
Father Name: Jas Rigby Hatter
Spouse Father Name: Jas Caple Book Seller

If you send for one of the children's birth certificates, it should state mother's name.
I'm not young enough to know everything.

Uuuumm!
Just found them in 1861, he was an engineer, so it is unlikely that this is the marriage.

Hi,

Probably not your Anne as that registration area is north of the Thames but it was the only one in the London area.

Have you looked for their baptisms?  At least you should find the mother's first name.

FreeBMD has a death for a Mary Ann RIGBY, Mar qtr 1851, St Geo Southwk, which could be the first wife. Only female death in that area from Sep 1850 when Emily was born to when 1851 census would have taken place
