Black family / Cavan / Gartbratten > Ontario c.1890?
« on: Monday 06 September 10 19:16 BST (UK) »
Hi all

Looking for John and James Black, born circa 1870, departed from Ireland to USA or Canada (departure and arrival port unknown), and from whom nothing has been heard since! One letter was received early 1900s but no record of same is kept. Father - Randal H Black, Mother - Mary Berry.

Any help would be great, thanks.

I.G.I. (www.familysearch.org) lists one of the sons- James Berry Black born 30 June 1870 Ireland (Lurgan registration district according to LDS Pilot site), son of Randal John Hamilton Black and Mary Anne Berry.

Civil registration index shows possible marriage and death for Randal J. H. Black:
marriage 1869 Cavan registration district
death July/Sept.1909 Dublin North district (born c1841)

Brilliant! That's the one. Thanks so much. I'll have a dig about and then come back with queries - will read up on those guides in your reply.

Ok, so looks like Ontario, Canada, not USA - so now looking for John Black landing with James Berry Black in Canada circa 1890...James Berry Black appears to have married a Sarah Rebecca Kenneally, which was good for them as they had a whole heap of kids. All good.

Hi all

Ok, think I may have found someone...but not sure, would appreciate help proving or disproving here!

John Black b. 1 Jan 1874 m. Margaret "Maggie" Geischler/Geeschler b. 2 Nov 1867. in Oxford, Ontario, 9 Jul 1897.

I have found the above two people plus children Isabella Barbara (b.1897) and Clarence B (b.1900), but am not 100% sure it's the right John Black...I mean, quite a common name, eh?

Is anyone else researching Black / Geischler and/or could help me here?

Thanks

Matt

Is it Canadian records you've found them in?
