wicklow electoral rolls for 1939

I did research in Dun Laoghaire Library where they had the register of electors for the 1940s and 1950s in book form. They were indexed by address only. I would start by contacting Wicklow County Council and asking which if any library holds the info. I don't believe it is digitised

many of the Electoral Registers are available through the National Archive.

When I last looked at them (several years ago), they were books, not digitised - I never checked on Wicklow, tho'.

I've just been back to the National Archive - they have some electoral Rolls for Co. Wicklow -
I didn't note all years, but they have several of the years between 1918 and 1954.

As before, they're Books arranged by address - and they need to be ordered up the previous day (in person), or I think 3 days before(by email).

I'll report back when I actually order and look at them! My idea is to look at a couple of areas every 8-10 years.

when you were inDun Laoghaire, was that Wicklow, or Dun Laoghaire Boro' you were looking at? Was it the old Carnegie Library? (I used to be a member in the 1950s!)

I spent Thursday in the National Archive, looking at the Voters Books for Wicklow 1930, 1940 and 1951-57.
They have 1939 .. the call number is 1D - 19 - 123 ...(but check that yourself to be sure, aidan_mc)

Each year is 3-4 inches thick! They are "sort-of" alphabetically arranged by ??RegistrationDistrict ?within Polling District?? (maybe DED order?). Certainly by townland within each Registration District.  I spent a lot of time laboriously looking at nearly every page.

In each townland, the electors are alphabetical by surname, not obviously grouped by house  - so looking for my Byrnes was not very successful! A less common name might be easier.
