Great website.  I've bookmarked it to keep up to date with what you are all doing.  Hopefully, somewhere in all the Manchester graveyards there will be gravestones of my ancestors - I know where quite a lot are buried, but I guess the stones have long since gone or fallen over.

Hope everyone had a good Christmas.

Just to let everyone know we have a leaflet/flyer available in both A5 or A4 sizes to publicise the project and to try to attract some more volunteers.

Cancan has taken some to Manchester Library today.

If anyone would like a copy to display on noticeboards etc., at wherever you do your research - may be your local library or LDS centre or anywhere where you think people would be interested, please PM your email address to either Cancan or Luzzu and we will email it by return.

Best wishes for the New Year.

Luzzu  :D

Happy New Year  :D

Just to let everyone know there is a new page on the project website to showcase a series of pics taken by Spatts of the various different gravestone carvings:-

I think the whole subject is fascinating and hope others will too.  Hopefully we will be able to add to the collection once the weather improves and the cemetery visits start again.

Great idea, Spatts  :D.

Thankyou Luzzu and Spatts. The symbolism is really fascinating, and at a time when death was so much more likely from quite everyday illnesses that sort of thing would perhaps help people through,
I hope it did.

A Happy New Year to everyone and yes--- roll on the better weather!

:) Hi Barbara, I only took the pics, Luzzu sorted them out onto the site. The idea at first was to have the pics down each side of info on each page, smaller size of course but, that was the idea.

Glad you & others like the slideshow that Luzzu did,  :D now thats done, its a matter of waiting for some decent weather, then Cancan, myself & others can get back up there to the MGC & get stuck in to the project once more. Just hope Dominic dosn't send the teams in before we get done what we can do, then its a matter of following the teams as they lift the stones & do whatever they are going to do & get the transcriptions done.

see you early spring, if not before,  :D

regards, Spatts.  :)

Hi Spatts,

Sorry I couldn't get them down the edges of the pages like you originally suggested but have to work within the confines of a pre-set template which is just as well because I wouldn't have the technical ability to work without one  :D.  Hope you like how it turned out - good teamwork I would say  ;D.
