Tryng to find information on my GG Grandfather Walter McBroom. Born around 1831. I have his US naturalization document and he states he was a native of County Antrim Ireland. He arrived in New York on May 21, 1850. He settled in Indiana USA.
After arriving in US Indiana ...

William J McBroom 1871 – 1872
Robert Miller McBroom 1872 – 1927
According to his statement on naturalization paperwork, he embarked on his voyage to US in Belfast Ireland.
Seeing that his first son was named Hugh and his first daughter was named Martha - I have followed that path and found a Hugh McBroom b: 1796 that married a Martha MacKay and they had 8 children in County Antrim, but none of the 8 kids were named Walter.
Suppose Walter was either adopted or was a relative and was living with Hugh and Martha. He would not show up in the First Presbytarian Christing records, but could have still lived with them.
When he settled in Indiana USA, he may have honored his "parents Hugh and Martha" by naming his first born after them. Possibility? Likely? Thoughts?
