Edward Henry Owen b. 1836
« on: Saturday 11 September 10 17:00 BST (UK) »
Hello,
Edward Henry Owen was born in 1836 and baptised at St Mary Whitechapel
In 1870 he married Jane Minshall, in Sheffield.
He then disappears from view until 1891 when he and Jane are living in Lambeth.  He is a gasfitter.  In 1892 Jane appears to have died (I am still to get the death certificate as confirmation) and EHO disappears from view once more.
Can anyone find them in 1871 or 1881?  I can't.  I can't even find EHO in 1861 either.  Perhaps he/they went over seas for a while?
I also can't find EHO after his wife died.  He is the most slippery of that generation of my family to track down so any help would be appreciated!
(Edward's parents were Edward Owen and Matilda Maria née Smith.)
Thank you
Kirk

Hi - this doesn't answer your question but reveals some more details about what appears to be Edward circa 1858 if you weren't already aware: http://www.london-gazette.co.uk/issues/22082/pages/173 (column 2)

Hi Rob,
I can't read the info on my computer so I shall have a look when I am at work on Monday .  Is it relative to Edward going bankrupt?  He is often to be found in the news around the 1850s and a quote from one of them says he had been before the court 'on numerous occasions'  Mind you he was slippery chap and always seemed to bounce back having plenty to leave in his will!

Hi Pauline,
I don't think that EHO and Jane had any children.  I can't find them in the census to find that fact out...
His mother died in 1869 but his father was still at 121 High Street in 1871.  He died 1874.

Hi

I suspect you mean he can be found on the 1881 census but not the 1861, 71 and 1891 censuses

Are you sure that Jane Owen died in 1892 ?   Isn't this her in 1901 ?

Yes Valda that is what I mean - it was a tough week at work so my brain was a bit out of sync! ;)
Nick I can't say for certain but I am fairly certain she died in 1892.  I may have to get a certificate to prove it one way or another.  If alive my Jane would have been 57 in 1901.

Kirk, people were more vague about their ages in those days.   I wouldn't rule her out.
