COMPLETE George Duncan McDonald-Sarah Margaret Gurling look up
« on: Monday 13 September 10 02:27 BST (UK) »
Could some kind person please do a look-up on the marriage and children of George Duncan McDonald who married Sarah Margaret Gurling.
My ggrandfather, George Horace, their son was born in Greenock in 1857 according to his marriage certificate in Australia.
They probably travelled to Australia soon afterwards.

Thanks, Alison  :)

Hi Alison

Not sure that this is the right one, but it's the best fit I could find with the information you provided...

Sarah GURLING and George MCDONALD
Married 26th Oct 1852
St Anne Shandon Cork Ireland
Bride's Father= William GURLING
Groom's Father = George MCDONALD

This is a possible birth for son...

Georgius MCDONALD
born 21st June 1857
St Peter Doncaster York England
Father = Georgii MCDONALD
Mother = Sara GIRLING MCDONALD

Cheers

Thanks Karenlee,

sounds plausible. My mother thinks Sarah was Irish. I just forgot to post that fairly important fact.

The birth for Georgius seems to match the parents but not where. Perhaps they moved to Greenock.

Regards, Alison :)

Hi

I think that Greenock was one of the Ports from which many of the Antipodian immigrants departed.  This place might have been his earliest memory or he might have been told by his parents that Greenock was where they were in the UK when they left the country and he has assumed that it was also his birthplace...??

Speculation of course... ;)

Cheers

I've just had clarification from another RChatter. It seems he was born in Victoria, Australia after all, but the marriage seems right.
Thanks for your help Karenlee :)
