I think I've worked it out now. Michael McQuade married Nora Smears in the 3rd quarter 1901. Michael was 18 and Nora 17.

On the 1901 census they are living in the same part of Liverpool (St Martin's in the Field) with their parents.

It looks like Nora was actually called Honora and had shortened it to Nora. I can't find a birth for a Nora Smears but there is one for an Honora Smears in 1884 in Liverpool.

Honora/Nora McQuade died in the 3rd quarter 1921 in Liverpool age 37. That's maybe when Michael moved to Manchester as you said you know he was there in 1927.

Hope this is of some help.

Margaret

I'll check it again but I couldn't find another Nora born in the right period. If you PM me with your email address I'll send you more details.

Are you saying that you know that Nora/Honora's father was called John or that you've been told that the father's name was John?

I've had a look at John Smears/Sinears born Germany on the 1881 and 1891 and he didn't have a daughter called either Nora or Honora so we can eliminate him.

The one I found the parents are William and Catherine.

Ivy. I am currently updating the section of the map you have been shown, and have just uploaded the updates so far, which now show the location of St. Michael's Square and church (just above Miller St.)

Hi. i'm also interested in the location of St Michael's Square. I have a 3x Grandfather living at 24 St Michael's square on the 1891 census. I'm wondering if this was a lodging house as there is lot of people residing there. I have tried the links to see the maps but they don't seem to be working for me. Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Thank you Heywood. I really appreciate that. Thank you for the link on Angel Meadow. I really need to research that area. This St Michaels square address is from my Dads side but i also have my Mums side with addresses in the same area, Old Mount Street, Back Brown Street, Back Buckley St, Bilberry Street, Crown Street, Scotland Court & the one i find the saddest The Cellar at 36 Red Bank. I'm luck to be here by the looks of it. I have ordered the Angel Meadow book from amazon so hopefully that will help. Thanks again! :)
