"Children's Home, Sudbury" nr Wembley, I Think
« on: Monday 13 September 10 09:43 BST (UK) »
Hi,  :)

Has anyone come across a children's home in Sudbury, that would have taken in boys, and was in operation during the mid 1920s?

The local directories mention only a home for destitute girls.

I have got a query in with the local studies centres that cover that area, but no likely candidates yet.  Any ideas?

Hi Timoth

Which 'local studies' are you waiting to hear from so we don't duplicate enquiries?

For info, there is a related topic here

Hi Dawnsh, I was told that Sudbury was on the border of a few different areas now.  Harrow have found nothing and I am waiting to here from Brent and Ealing.  Again, I suspect that if records are at LMA I may come unstuck because I don't know which childrens home to look for.

hi, the only sudbury that i am aware off is in suffolk, i dont know if your info is entirely correct but if it is then this wont be of any use to you, there used to be a boys home in sudbury suffolk called crofton house that took in boys between 1920-1950s, might be worth contacting sudbury council to see if they can help ( or eliminate it).....      nancy

Thanks NancyDrew,
Apart from near Wembley, there are other, further-flung, Sudburys... as you say: Suffolk, Derbyshire and Staffs, I believe.  The Suffolk children's home turns out to have been a part of the local Union, but records have not survived  :(

I haven't yet contacted Derbyshire or Staffordshire, as I have no other clues suggesting that this particular part of ancestry ever strayed far from London...... But on the other hand.....  I have very few clues at all!
