« on: Monday 13 September 10 13:27 BST (UK) »
Are there any Marriages for Kirkby or Annesley areas for George Knight born Eaton 1812-1904 Occupation Gardener at Annesley. Addresses given as The Hall Or The Kennels on the 1871 & 1881 census

In particular I am looking for ladies named Mary ? marriage 1861 - 1871  & Elizabeth  ? marriage 1871 - 1881.

I do have George on all the relevant censuses.

Thanks for any help

If you have him on the census's is he not shown living with his wife  ??? if so where there any children as thier birth certificates would give thier mothers maiden name, then you can find the marriage.

You would need this information with such a common name

Thank you for replying Patrish.

George seems to have three different wives  during the years 1841 - 1891 this is why it is so difficult to ensure I order the correct certs. Firstly Sarah from 1841 census with children George 1854 and Sarah Ann 1857 born Kirkby, Notts . Second  wife Mary and finally Elizabeth(No children on censuses during these marriages other than George & Sarah Ann.  There were no other children identified on the censuses. Through out his life George senior was a Ag labourer / gardener. On George Junior Marriage cert father's occupation is a labourer.
I have not ordered any Certs yet due to Knight being a common surname.I was hoping that some of the parish records may provide clues.

I am a bit confused, have you found him on the 1841 census with a Sarah and any children. ???

Firstly Sarah from 1841 census with children George 1854 and Sarah Ann 1857 born Kirkby, Notts .

These 2 cannot be on the 1841 nor 1851  census with him if thier birth dates are correct

Thanks,

I found the right couple in 1841 as there are no children with them I would assume that they married quite recently but searching the IGI all I could find was this marriage 14.4.1836 Babworth, Nottinghamshire to a Sarah Hartley  :-\

But no children in 1851 either.

The 1861 is puzzling me, I cant see how they got from Knight to Sykes and where did the 2 children come from after all this time.  Sarah has only aged 3 years from the last census  ??? maybe he married another Sarah  :-\

I found one possible for Mary,George Knight married
Mary Phillips, Nov 14 1865 St Mary, Kirby in Ashfield.
There is a Mary Phillips born Worksop 1824 to Sarah  & John, which would be about the right time.

I have looked at the 1861 and it is written down quite clearly as Sykes  so not mis transcribed .

Sarah bothers me as she is down as born in 2 different places and has only aged 3 years in the past 10 ???  it was quite usual for ladies to knock a few years of thier ages but this one is rather big  :o

I have checked her age in 1851 and it is down as 36 unless of course this is a mistake  :-\
