The 1911 Irish census is online (free) so you can search for the family-
www.census.nationalarchives.ie/search
I think the place you mean is Abbeyleix not Abbeyleu but I can't see the family- however the names might be spelt differently.

Added- also known as Abbeylaois

Might help if you read Introduction to Irish records to learn what resources are available and how to find them.

This looks like your family in the 1911 census:

www.census.nationalarchives.ie/pages/1911/Queen_s_Co_/Abbeyleix/Rathmoyle/781381/

From that we know they had 5 children all of whom were still alive then; so if they also had children named Kate, John or Eileen (as you mention in your first post) then they were born after the 1911 census.

Henry & Mary had been married 10 years in 1911, so you might want to look for a marriage cert for them c 1901. She was from Queen’s Co (Laois) so it would be traditional to marry at her church. (If you find the Marriage Cert you’ll get their father’s names.)

I can’t see any Henry Atkinson in the 1901 census who was a) born Co Tipperary, b) aged c 24 and c) RC. Suggests perhaps he was not in Ireland on census night.

Your next steps are to follow the suggestions in agahdowey's link.

Hello Agi and Elwyn,

You may want to make a note of this:
 English census for 1901 RG13; Piece: 3678; Folio: 33; Page: 15

117 Baslow Street Ardwick Manchester
Henry Atkinson 21 yrs Machine Minder Iron Works b Ireland
Mary Atkinson 19 yrs b Ireland

Lancashire BMD has a marriage Henry Atkinson and Mary Revington 1901 Chorlton on Medlock- registrar attended or register office
and Free BMD indicates that this was in March quarter 1901.

Irish census 1901 shows a number of Revingtons in Abbeyleix so it is a possibility, especially as Henry can't be found in 1901 in Irish census.

His age is a bit out there as the Family Search pilot site http://pilot.familysearch.org/recordsearch/start.html#start
has a birth for a Henry Atkinson 1876 Thurles district which is a strong candidate for your Henry.

Also, by now you will have realised that this post is in the wrong county so hopefully will be moved.

best wishes
heywood

Hi Heywood, Sorry I don't know how to move this post as I'm new to computing and looking at my family tree.  Thank you very much for the info you gave me, it has proved invaluable and 100% correct. You're a real pal and a star. My wife and I are sending off for their marriage certificate to try and get one step further back in time. best wishes to you and yours, God bless from Agi.

It's a pleasure and I hope all turns out well. Once you get the certificate you will be able to get their fathers' names.

The thread will be moved by a moderator if necessary - don't worry.

Good luck
heywood
