Old Brampton PR
« on: Thursday 16 September 10 16:01 BST (UK) »
I am searching for a baptism of my ancestor David FRIGNAL (also spelled FRICKNALL). His first son was born around 1703 in Caunton, Nottinghamshire, and David died there in 1742. The Caunton registers are incomplete, only beginning in 1709. However, I think that David might have been born elsewhere, seeing as his children are the only FRIGNALs/FRICKNALLs living in the village.

Searching the IGI, I came across a large number of FRI(CK/G)NALL baptisms at Old Brampton, Derbyshire. Coincidentally, there are a few David Fricknalls baptised there, along with similarities in names David gave to his children (Jonathan, James, George, etc.). This makes me think it likely that David came from Old Brampton. The problem is that all the early Old Brampton records on the IGI appear to be submitted, so I don't know how good the coverage is, and if the record I am looking for might be omitted.

I'm hoping to find a baptism of David there around 1680 (give or take a few years).

Thanks,
Alexander

Hi Alexander,
Just been looking at Old Brampton parish registers - I can confirm that there was no David Fricknall or variants  baptised about 1680 in Old Brampton as stated by 'colkitto'.  Have tried the next parish which is Baslow but the family name does not appear in these records.  Wishing you luck in your search.

Thank you Jo & Wisteria16.

You've added a few more baptisms that weren't on the IGI, thanks Jo.

Much appreciated that you checked the registers for me, now I know he wasn't baptised at Old Brampton I will have to look elsewhere. There are so many first names in common with the Old Brampton lot though, so I don't think he would be far away.

Thanks again,
Alexander
