« on: Thursday 16 September 10 23:57 BST (UK) »
Am looking for any info on David Jones who was listed as being born in Swansea abt 1881 and was living in 11 Alwyne road Canonbury Islington in the 1911 census. He died at the City of London Lunatic ssylum in 1920 and was living in the Salvation Army Hostel in Middlesex Street. Could anyone tell me what schools there were in that area?

Hi

On the 1901 census there are 11 David Jones born Swansea within one year of 1881 in Wales and one living in Cheshire - David B Jones. Otherwise no others in England. David's medical case book records from Stone Asylum may give more information of his family to help pinpoint which David Jones he is.

1920 is under the 100 year ruling but the London Metropolitan Archives may very well release information under the Freedom of Information Act particularly if you are directly related.

Hi Valda, thanks for this.

The David Jones I am actually looking for was born in Newport Pembrokeshire, his father was the headmaster there. I have the death certificate and it lists him as David Stanley Jones which is right, died on July 31st 1920, occupation Elementary School Teacher, although the headstone in Newport says July 30th 1920. Another rootschatter says because he died in an institution they may not have known his actual date of birth. Several of my Great uncles and aunts were teachers and my Mother said one died because he studied too much, this might explain why he was there although he died of TB. I can't understand why he is listed as being born in Swansea although several of his brothers had moved to that area as both parents were deceased by 1912. I can't find him in the 1901 census his mother had already died and his father had moved to Mynachlog ddu with two of his sons to take up a headship there. I was wondering if David could have been at a training college. I will certainly look into the link you posted, so thanks once again

kind regards
