Elizabeth's name listed as NORRIS appeared in the BISA

Here is the marriage mentioned by Steve on that thread.

More confused than ever with this. Elizabeth remarries in 1854 but we don't have Duncan's death until 1856. Was the JP not her husband?

Are you working with Steve who posted to your other thread?

more information here.

Hi,

In a previous post about Duncan McFarlane it was mentioned that he may have drowned in a mining accident.

The 1845 South Australian Almanac & Directory under Mines at work in the Colony has a small piece that mentions
a Duncan McFarlanes lead mine in the Barossa Valley, so the drowning adds up.

Regards

Gerry

A child dying in 1841 mentioned in one of these posts I linked - the entry from the WCT burial reads

McFARLANE Child of Mrs 17/2/1841 aged 3 weeks of Currie Street

Still don't see them in Currie Street in 1841 unfortunately.

And no sign of an earlier death for a Duncan McFARLANE.  ???

I am assuming that Currie St is in Adelaide the chn is not Duncan & Elizabeth.
Yes I am in correspondence with Steve.
1845 is a big difference to 1856- mining.
Yes the JP was her husband.

Yes Currie Street is in the centre of Adelaide. What is chn?

So you believe Elizabeth's husband was this JP - so he was nearly double her age and died some 2 1/2 years after she remarries as a widow  :-\

We have this 1841 burial child of Mrs (Were they estranged?)

There is no burial listed for Duncan at WTC.

Were these two not married?

It is all very strange. We have a newspaper death for this man but no mention of family. Elizabeth declares herself widowed 2 1/2 years before his death.

Passenger list for the INDIA lists passengers names as Duncan McFARLANE and Elizabeth NORRIS

Now looking at application for free travel

McFARLANE Duncan application for 1 male application number 6213 Embarkation Number 3511 arrived aboard INDIA 23 Feb 1840

NORRIS Elizabeth application for 1 female application number 6207 Embarkation Number 3509 arrived aboard the INDIA 23 Feb 1840

Elizabeth was 23 when she arrived in Aust. Duncan was 30.
Sorry Chn - child or Children.
the burial is another mystery- he had a plot at WTC, and was listed there but I understand that is he is not buried there. From WTC themsleves.
