Thanks Janice - so that means I need to look again at the death indexes because although he was living in Newcastle perhaps he was staying elsewhere. I thought wherever he was his wife would have registered the death in Newcastle which would be her local registry office. Best wishes.

Just thought I would let you all know that my problem is solved and I now have a death certificate for Joseph.
