VIVYAN moving to Swindon
« on: Sunday 19 September 10 17:56 BST (UK) »
I am trying to find out when and why my grandmother moved from Bray (near Maidenhead) to Swindon sometime after 1911 census.  I am told that her father died and her mother either re married or moved to Swindon around that time- not sure in which order. Her father was Ernest George Vivyan and her mother Emily Alice Vivyan.  I cannot seem to find a record of Ernests death yet but can anyone find Emily, and daughters Dorothy, Cecily and son Cecil in a Swindon census please.

The 1911 is the latest available census so any info after that date apart from BMD - will be difficult

You haven't given any details of anybody's birthyear/birthplace and we would particularly need Ernest's birthyear to look for a death for him.

When did they marry?

I am assuming they were in Bray in 1911 so was Ernest still alive at that time?

I see a freebmd birth in Berkshire for Cecil Ernest George Vivyan in 1908

Using only the free 1911 index I see the family in Maidenhead and Ernest is shown as b 1879 and Emily 1880.  All children were born after 1901 so will only appear on the 1911 census

Hi, yes I have that information on the 1911 census, but Dorothy and family were living in Swindon sometime after that and Dorothy married my grandfather in 1925 in Swindon where she lived until she died.  I don't think Ernest was with them when they moved so do not know where he disappeared to.  We think Emily remarried - she definitely had another child later with a different father, the child was called Harry Reynolds.

If you check freebmd there is a Reynolds birth in 1917 in Swindon - mothers maiden name Baxter - it may be worth getting a copy to see who the father was

I thought Ernest may have died in WWI but there is no entry on www.cwgc.org for him under Vivyan or Vivian

There is no Reynolds marriage between 1911-1917 to a Vivyan or Baxter

Thank you.   Apparently there is a medals record for Ernest George but no service record for WW1 but he or a relative of his was in Nice, France in 1935 and requested another medal he had earned to be sent to Nice via the British LEgion!  The plot thickens!!!!!!!!!

There is no WWI medal record for an Ernest George Vivyan or Vivian

There are 2 entries for Ernest Vivian and there is a service record for one of them but his profile does not match your Ernest
