Good morning Tony,

I found this on 1901 Irish census- for you to think about
http://www.census.nationalarchives.ie/pages/1901/Clare/Mountshannon/Derroran_West/1085791/

and 1911

http://www.census.nationalarchives.ie/pages/1911/Clare/Mountshannon/Derroran_West/369483/

It fits with the stained glass window in the church re the place name- spelt a bit differently but I would consider it.

best wishes
heywood

It might be worth applying for a birth certificate for Mary - with parents Dennis and Margaret.

I have been trying to look and am not sure re the registration districts.

Griffiths Valuation has a Denis Allen in Cloonty connaught, Inishcaltra parish (found under Galway county) Inishcaltra must cover parts of the two counties.

Inishcaltra parish covers both Cloontyconnaught and Derryoran so it may be that 1901 people are related - the only thing is that they would both be called Dennis  :-\ I mean your Dennis and Dennis, the father of Isaac.

Thanks again for taking the time and trouble in replying it is intersting , I didn't realize the information you are finding was available on the census .

I have sent email this morning to Clare Library asking for any details on the Allen Family what appears is the family must have split ( Denis and Mary ) Mary staying in Ireland , Denis in Liverpool and re-marrying .I notice on the 1901 census Mary is a widow .

Your efforts are , much appreciated .

Regards

Tony

Hi again,

I honestly think that these are two separate families.

Dennis and Mary and Dennis adn Margaret.

There are deaths in Irish indexes on Family Search Pilot:

Denis Allen 70 yrs
Scarriff 1865 vol 19 pg 268
Denis Allen  60 yrs
Scarriff district Jan-March 1889  Vol 4 pg 301

Mary has a son Denis born in 1870s

You could try getting a birth cetificate for Mary (I know I said this before- sorry  ::))

http://www.groireland.ie/

using parents Dennis and Margaret to see if there is one.

Family Search has a John Allen b 1864 to Dennis Allen and Margaret Gorman in Mountshannon district but then you would wonder where he is in England. There is a death in Mountshannon district 1895 for a chap born around 1865  ???

heywood,

Thanks again , I have received a reply from Clare Library , they gave me some leads one being ww.ourlibrary
I don't know if you are already aware of this Site , I have a feeling that the reason Dennis plus Catherine and
Mary only show on the 1871 census in Liverpool , it may have been the Mother( Mary Hackett/Margaret Gorman )
may have died .

I will place a message on the Site mentioned in the hope it rings a bell with someone .

Regards

Tony

Hi again,

that's a good idea.

I do think, however, that Mary in the censuses is Mary Hackett as she is there with Isaac but that is just me  ;)

Margaret may have just been omitted from the census, she may have still been in Ireland or
she may be elsewhere that's the trouble.

One thing I did think was that if she is Margaret Gorman and perhaps John (of FS site) did not die, he may have been left behind in Ireland with relatives.

A birth certificate would hopefully help.

good luck and please keep us informed  :D

heywood

ps.
or he could just have met Margaret in L'pool after 1871 but he does say he is married.

Thanks for replying , I have an extract of For God or King , which you may be aware of, It mentions the Allen Family in Mountshannon .

Unfortunately I do not know what part of Clare my line originate from I have been using guess work .
